Madrid ask for TV rights offer

Real Madrid have taken to their official website to ask for offers for their 2014/15 TV rights.

A court ruling ordered Los Blancos to end a deal with company Mediapro for their audiovisual rights.

An appeal is still pending, but in the meantime, the European champions have released a statement asking potential companies to come forward and bid for their television rights for the upcoming season.

“As the Press picked up at the time, at the end of last year the Competition Commission (CNMC) finalised a document that was started in May 2012,” a statement read.

“In said document the CNMC placed sanctions on Mediapro and various football clubs, including Real Madrid, on the understanding that the stated durations in the contracting of their audiovisual rights were greater than the lengths permitted.

“With regards to Real Madrid, the CNMC concluded that the contract signed on 30 November 2010, for which the club had sold the 2014/15 season rights to Mediapro, could be seen as a new contract or an extension of the existing contract signed between the two parties.

“Real Madrid have attempted to demonstrate in each and every way to the CNMC that their actions in extending the club's audiovisual rights has been done in good faith and in no case have the club intended to infringe any law. On the contrary, all contracts signed by Real Madrid scrupulously abide by The General Law of Audiovisual Communication. Notwithstanding, the CNMC have rejected Real Madrid's arguments, along with those of all the other clubs that were under investigation in their conclusions from 28 November 2013.

“Real Madrid have appealed the cited conclusions of the CNMC before the courts, and the case is still pending. Notwithstanding, as they have always done, and in accordance with the regulations, Real Madrid will listen to offers from those who might be interested in acquiring available audiovisual rights, with the sole intention of maximising the investment stemming from the club's rights and defending the interests of the club.

“Those who are interested should make offers to the club within seven days of the publication this announcement, and should attach an explicatory report of the predicted commercial use and their economic offer.”
