Atletico Madrid could make an approach to Espanyol for Mexico international centre-back Hector Moreno.
Marca report that despite Atletico feeling they will retain both first-choice central defenders of last season, Diego Godin and Miranda, Moreno is attracting the champions’ interest.
Godin has confirmed he will stay at Vicente Calderon for at least another year and while Miranda wants to go, Atleti’s insistence on his €30m release clause being met has so far deterred interested parties.
Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in Moreno and would rival Atletico for his signature, however, and Moreno is currently representing his country at the World Cup. Mexico will escape the group stage with a win over Croatia tomorrow.
Atletico are said to feel that Moreno’s experience of La Liga makes him a worthy target for the new campaign.
