England manager Roy Hodgson has said he has had no thoughts of resignation despite the Three Lions being on the brink of World Cup elimination.
A 2-1 defeat by Uruguay last night has left England needed help from Italy to stand any chance of qualifying as wins for the Azzurri today over Costa Rica and over Uruguay in the final round of fixtures could see England progress on goal difference – if they beat Costa Rica.
“I don't have any intention to resign,” the BBC reports Hodgson as saying.
“I've been really happy with the way the players have responded to the work we've done.
“I'm bitterly disappointed, of course, but I don't feel I need to resign, no.”
Hodgson, appointed to replace Fabio Capello in 2012, added, however, that it’s possible the decision could be taken out of his hands.
“On the other hand, if the FA think I'm not the right man to do the job, that will be their decision not mine,” he conceded.
