Real Sociedad and France winger Antoine Griezmann has paid tribute to international colleague and Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema.
Griezmann has been interviewed on the official FIFA website about France’s World Cup so far after Les Bleus got off to a winning start, beating Honduras 3-0.
Griezmann revealed that he didn’t expect to be in the first XI for the match and says it’s an example of how quickly things can change.
“If you'd told me I'd be in the line-up for that game, I wouldn't have believed it,” Griezmann admitted.
“Everything happens very quickly in football, though. You have to be ready.
“I feel like I've really found my place in this team. With every side I've played for, I've always tried to fit in and joke with my teammates, while enjoying good times with them on and off the pitch.
“And that’s what’s happened here.”
Griezmann netted in the win over the Central Americans and formed a dangerous combination with Benzema, a player Griezmann says he admires a lot.
“He's a fantastic striker who's indispensable for the team when he's full of confidence, as he was against Honduras,” he continued.
“I often try to find him, combine with him and give him good passes, but you can even send him a missile and he'll be able to control it. That's what makes him a top-class player.”
