Cesc Fabregas has said former Barcelona teammate Xavi Hernandez has followed Carles Puyol’s decision to ‘step aside’ at Camp Nou.
Marca reports a brief excerpt from an interview with the Chelsea new boy in which he hints the Spain playmaker will leave La Blaugrana.
“[Xavi] and Puyol have decided to step aside, to be closer to their families, away from so much demand,” he said.
It has long been rumoured that Xavi could leave Barca this summer after Coach Luis Enrique said he would need to speak with the player about what comes next.
Xavi has been linked with a move to Qatari football, with Marca claiming he could earn in the region of €8m per season from the region.
Puyol retired at the end of the season, taking a position alongside sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.
