Mourinho: Don’t drop Casillas

Jose Mourinho has said Spain should keep faith with goalkeeper Iker Casillas for their next World Cup game, against Chile on Wednesday.

Mourinho benched Casillas when Real Madrid Coach, first preferring youngster Antonio Adan and then Diego Lopez, and it had been suggested Vicente Del Bosque could follow suit after Casillas’ error in the 5-1 defeat against the Netherlands on Friday.

But Mourinho feels Del Bosque should retain the captain, revealing that’s what he’d do if he was in charge of La Roja.

“I wouldn’t leave Iker on the bench for Chile,” AS reports Mourinho as telling Yahoo Sports.

“The goalkeeper position is very specific and I don’t like to change a player because of a bad game.

“Only change as a result of a particular moment in a way that makes clear that a goalkeeper is not fit, that you don’t have confidence in him, or stability, when you get a feeling you better make a change.

“Iker has a very good track record with the national team. He’s a goalkeeper with the confidence of the Coach and had a bad game.

“Personally, for me that’s not enough to change the goalkeeper.”
