Coentrao admits World Cup injury fear

Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao has admitted he fears his World Cup is over after he was stretchered off in Portugal’s defeat to Germany.

The Portuguese were beaten 4-0 by Germany after Pepe was sent off in the first half, Thomas Muller claiming a hat-trick.

Coentrao left the match shortly after the hour mark with what AS say appears to be an abductor problem and the Portugal team doctor has confirmed he faces between 10 days and three weeks on the sidelines. That would mean Coentrao is out of both the remaining group games.

“I honestly think my World Cup is over,” he said. “I’m sure the injury is serious. I hope I’m wrong.

“These things happen. It’s one of the saddest days of my life.

“Despite the result we could still get through to the next round.”
