Messi: Argentina can improve

Barcelona forward has said Argentina can do better after the South Americans beat Bosnia-Herzegovina in their World Cup opener.

Argentina took a 2-1 win over the Balkans with Messi scoring the second goal but it was a sluggish first half from La Albiceleste and, according to Mundo Deportivo, Messi admitted Argentina need to step up.

“We continue calmly and in search of the dream we all have,” Messi said.

“It was important to start with a win. We have things to improve but the important thing is we got three points.”

Messi added that Argentina got better when Gonzalo Higuain was introduced to provide a focal point in attack, amid speculation the Napoli striker is to join La Blaugrana.

“We gave them the ball in the first half and that was difficult for us to create danger,” he continued.

“With [Higuain] in attack we were able to get forward so we could get the second goal.”
