Sneijder: We can hurt Spain

Netherlands midfielder Wesley Sneijder has acknowledged that Spain are among the favourites for the World Cup but says they can be damaged.

The Galatasaray playmaker spoke at a Press conference to preview tonight’s Group B game and revealed his excitement at being on the same pitch as some of his former Real Madrid teammates, backed the Dutch to be among the contenders to win the trophy, and dismissed comparisons with the 2010 final.

“That’s football, we’re starting against the team we lost to four years ago but we don’t think about that,” he said, according to AS.

“To me there is no more beautiful place to start the game.

“The two teams know each other well and there isn’t much surprise. I think it will be a great game.

“We have weapons to hurt Spain and we need to take advantage against a very strong opponent.

“It’s always nice to meet [Sergio Ramos] again. I was really happy for him in the Champions League final. He deserves to be among the best.

“I think there are several teams who can win the title, including Holland and Spain. They haven’t changed much in four years and are the favourites for me.”
