Siqueira impressed by Simeone

New Atletico Madrid left-back Guilherme Siqueira has spoken of how impressed he has been by Diego Simeone.

Siqueira was yesterday officially presented as an Atletico player after completing his move from Granada, having spent last season on loan at Benfica, where he won the Portuguese domestic treble.

The 28-year-old was thrilled to have been confirmed as a new arrival at the champions and revealed he was already looking forward to next season.

“I’m very happy, excited, as this is the first time I speak as an Atletico player,” AS reports the former Udinese man as saying.

“I know the club has put in a considerable effort. This is an unforgettable day and I can say I’m a Champions League player.

“Atletico can do more, so we’ll work hard. The team isn’t just for a good season but to create a great cycle to try and make things right and hopefully you will see that in coming years.

“It took me a second to choose Atletico. I’m grateful for the other clubs who were interested in me but when it came it was all very fast and it took me a second to decide.”

As it stands Siqueira will compete with Filipe Luis for the left-back spot, although Filipe has been linked with a move to Chelsea.

Siqueira said that if he has to fight Filipe for the place, he will, adding that they have known each other for a long time.

“We’ve been friends since childhood but now you have to be professional,” he said.

“I come here to add something. I’m Siqueira, he’s Filipe. He has a very important role, he’s an Atletico player, and I don’t know who is going to go and who is going to stay.”

Regarding Cholo Simeone, Siqueira said that the Coach’s work has been so good that players are queuing up to move to Vicente Calderon.

“It’s impressive to see his work at Atletico. Those who’ve seen Atleti on television have thought it’s a pleasure to watch their play,” Siqueira went on.

“There are a lot of people who would like to join this group. In recent years Atletico have gotten to finals, won trophies, and I want to be part of this club.”
