Real Madrid defender Marcelo has revealed that winning the Champions League final was such a blur he barely even remembers it.
Marcelo scored against Atletico Madrid to make the score 3-1, with Madrid eventually winning 4-1 after extra-time.
He told Brazilian publication O Globo that after what was a hard year, the joy of scoring such a crucial goal left him overwhelmed.
“I don’t even remember what happened on the pitch,” AS reports Marcelo as saying.
“When I scored the goal that virtually secured the trophy a lot of things came to my head.
“It was a difficult year with a lot of knocks. I had to sacrifice a lot on the field. I think that’s why I was staring at nothing after the goal.
“Before the game, in the locker room, Iker Casillas called me aside and told me I would be very important for the team. That gave me a lot of strength.
“The guy is an idol of Real Madrid, one of the biggest names in the history of the club.
“So [after the goal] I went and gave him a big hug. Crying was natural, spontaneous.”
