FIFA sponsor wants Qatar investigation

Sony, a major sponsor of FIFA, have called for allegations of corruption regarding Qatar’s successful World Cup 2022 bid to be investigated.

The Guardian reports that the electronics company have made the statement in light of further claims from the Sunday Times, made in today’s paper, a week after the first wave of allegations.

Mohamed bin Hammam is at the centre of the claims, with the Sunday Times publishing extensive files on the matter.

The Qatar World Cup organising committee deny all accusations of wrong-doing and insist bin Hammam had no position in the bid team.

“As a FIFA partner, we expect these allegations to be investigated appropriately,” Sony said.

“We continue to expect FIFA to adhere to its principles of integrity ethics and fair play across all aspects of its operations.”
