Mundo Deportivo has claimed Javier Mascherano has agreed a new contract with Barcelona to run until 2018.
It’s said that the Argentina international, currently preparing for the World Cup with his country, has been rewarded for his importance in the locker room as much as on the field.
Mascherano had considered leaving Camp Nou this summer but is understood to have decided to remain with the Catalans, for reasons other than financial.
The player’s agent was in Barcelona on Friday to speak with higher-ups, including Andoni Zubizarreta, and the outcome is believed to be the agreement of a new contract with the midfielder-turned-centre-back.
