Carvajal could get call-up

Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal could be added to Spain’s World Cup squad if Juanfran doesn’t come through tonight’s friendly with El Salvador.

FIFA rules allow for changes to the named squads prior to each country’s opening fixture and the Atletico Madrid defender is still suffering with a problem and has had trouble running.

Marca has reported that if the doubt over the 29-year-old persists, Carvajal, named in the 30-man preliminary squad, will be drafted in to replace his Atleti counterpart.

The game, which takes place in Washington DC at FedEx Field, will see Vicente Del Bosque field the players who didn’t feature in last week’s win over Bolivia in Seville.

Atletico and Real Madrid players were left out of the match as it was less than a week removed from the Champions League final, but a number of them are expected to play against the Central Americans.

The likes of Xabi Alonso, Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas, and their Rojiblanco cousins Juanfran, Koke, Diego Costa and David Villa – now of New York City FC – should play.

Costa has also been carrying an injury but the Spain set-up are said to be more confident in his readiness than that of Juanfran.
