Torres stresses Spain motivation

Fernando Torres has said that while Spain are a different team to the last World Cup, they want to win just as much.

Should Spain win a second straight tournament it would prolong a cycle of success that goes back to Euro 2008, and Marca reports the Chelsea striker as insisting the motivation remains.

“Obviously no one is the same as six years ago,” Torres said of the triumph in Austria and Switzerland.

“When you’re champions you focus on games differently but that does not mean we’re going to do better or worse.

“That’s life and no one is the same as a year ago or as they will be in a while.

“The past is the past and this is why you play. I want to win as much as I did in 2008, 2010 and 2012. Nothing has changed. The will to win is the same.

“No one can doubt the commitment and this team did something no one has done before.”

Torres also touched on Luis Aragones, the Coach for the 2008 victory, who passed away earlier this year.

“Luis is present every day, in every practice, every sentence,” he said.

“Each training session there’s always one of Luis’ famous quotes.

“There isn’t a day when he isn’t remembered by the team with some of his phrases or moments.”

Torres also commented on Cesc Fabregas’ proposed move to Chelsea, backing the midfielder’s potential transfer from Barcelona.
