Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has spoken in an interview of the future of Iker Casillas, winning La Decima and the World Cup.
Marca reports Perez telling El Larguero that he expects Casillas to stay at Santiago Bernabeu, confirming a meeting with the player and his agent.
“I had breakfast with Casillas and his representative. [Casillas] has never shown an interest in leaving,” Perez said.
“He has been at Madrid since he was nine-years-old and wants to finish his career here, at least to my knowledge.
“[Casillas] will continue this year at Real Madrid. He has a contract with which he must comply, and a release clause.”
Perez also touched on the abdication of King Juan Carlos, describing him as ‘the best monarch in the history of Spain,’ before talk returned to football.
“When Real Madrid lose it brings out the best in us. The defeat on penalties to Bayern Munich was the worst,” he lamented.
“We suffered a lot to achieve La Decima. We were in seven semi-finals. We’ve enjoyed the 10th more than the ninth because it was an obsession that meant universal satisfaction. La Decima was the trophy I’ve enjoyed most in my life.
“Carlo Ancelotti has done what everyone knew he was going to do. He’s made the players into a large family and now I have a familial relationship with them.”
According to Perez, Ancelotti’s predecessor Jose Mourinho sent a message of congratulations to Madrid following the Champions League final.
Madrid face a partial stadium closure for their first home Champions League game of next season but Perez confirmed the club would appeal the decision to punish their fans’ behaviour.
“We will appeal the sanction. Everything I do I have to think hard about as I preside over the greatest club of the 20th century, according to FIFA,” Perez said.
Perez also revealed that he wouldn’t travel to the World Cup and suggested his greatest interest in the tournament came from making sure Madrid’s players returned home in one piece.
“I can’t go to the World Cup. I have a lot of work with my company and Madrid,” he said.
“I worry that a player can be injured in the World Cup like Kaka was or Sami Khedira was with Germany.
“Players such as Cristiano Ronaldo should only play when they’re healthy.”
The subject of transfers was raised and Perez hinted that there would be arrivals this summer, without offering any names, and also spoke of the potential of outgoings.
“We always sell the most shirts,” Perez began. “We always attract attention and grab headlines.
“[But] we have not made any movement in the market.
“With Alvaro Morata we will have a conversation but we still haven’t sat down and talked.
“I’m a friend of the leaders of Juventus but I haven’t talked about the possibility Morata could go. There are none.
“Typically, all the players here will continue next year because we have a very young team.
“I don’t know what Zinidine Zidane wants to do. He wants to be a Coach. We’ll talk next week.
“I can assure you neither Sergio Aguero nor Paul Pogba will be here next year.”
