Iker Muniain is expected to sign a new contract with Athletic Bilbao, tying the forward to the club until 2018.
AS reports that talks between the player and the club are at an advanced stage and despite a difference of opinion over Muniain’s pay packet, it’s not expected to derail negotiations.
The release clause in the new contract is likely to be put at around €50m after Muniain decided his career prospects would be better served by staying at San Mames.
It’s claimed that previous reports Muniain wanted €3.5m per year were wide of the mark and greatly annoyed the 21-year-old, who is excited at the chance to play in the Champions League for Los Leones.
