Soldado to Atletico?

Atletico Madrid could offer Roberto Soldado a route back to Spain after the striker’s tough year with Tottenham Hotspur.

Los Colchoneros were in the market for Soldado a year ago, when he moved to Spurs, but could now be priced out of the deal, Marca has reported.

Soldado earns €5m per year in the Premier League and Spurs want to recoup a large part of the €30m they paid Valencia for the Spain international.

The appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as the club’s new Coach also complicates matters as it’s not known if Soldado will have a role under the former Southampton boss.

Soldado is said to be desperate to leave Spurs and Atletico want the ex-Getafe man, but there’s no guarantee a deal can be made with Tottenham.

But with Diego Costa considering an exit, the League champions are very much looking for a new striker.

Romelu Lukaku is a name on the agenda and he could form part of a deal to take Costa to Chelsea, but only on loan.

Jackson Martinez of Porto has also been discussed, as has his compatriot, Sevilla’s Carlos Bacca, but both players could prove too rich for Atletico’s budget.

If Christian Benteke, the Aston Villa striker, had not been injured, then he would also be a target of the club.
