Atleti to replace Filipe with Siqueira?

Atletico Madrid will move for Guilherme Siqueira should Filipe Luis depart the League champions this summer.

Filipe has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea but AS claims Atletico are ready to account for the Brazilian’s departure by turning to the Granada defender.

Siqueira spent last season on loan at Benfica as part of the team that won the domestic treble, but is unlikely to remain in Portugal.

The 28-year-old’s €8m price tag plus request that Benfica double his Granada salary to more than €1m after tax per season has spelled the end of his stay at Estadio de Luz, the site of the Champions League final.

But Atletico have watched Siqueira for a while now and will make him their prime target should Filipe move on.

Siqueira has a €25m release clause in his Granada deal but Atletico could get him for the same €8m as Benfica, although they will attempt to negotiate the fee down.

Inter are also said to be interested in the player, who has an Italian passport and as such doesn’t take up a space for a non-EU player.

Siqueira was close to joining Real Madrid last summer as the replacement for Fabio Coentrao. A deal between Madrid and Granada was done but Coentrao’s move to Manchester United fell apart at the last minute, leaving Siqueira free to join Benfica instead.
