J.I.M. convinced Valladolid will stay up

Valladolid Coach Juan Ignacio Martinez says there is no point in his side looking back to last week’s 4-3 defeat to Real Betis.

The Castile and Leon outfit led three times against their already relegated opponents but were pegged back on each occasion, before conceding a last minute winner.

It has left the team now needing to beat rivals for the drop Granada this afternoon to have any hope of remaining in Spain’s top flight. In addition, they must also hope for at least one of Osasuna, Getafe and Almeria to slip up.

However, speaking at the Press conference ahead of the crunch encounter against the Andalusians, the tactician remains convinced his team will secure safety.

“After the match against Betis we were all devastated,” Martinez told the assembled media. “But there is no point in us looking back. Now is the time to look forward to this match with confidence and intent.

“I am absolutely convinced that we will stay up. To achieve that, we will count on the support of our fans, we have already demonstrated that we are a very capable team at Zorilla.

“It will be more of a dramatic match than a tactical one, as it usually is in a situation like this. We are going to go for them from the first minute.

“Not everything about this season will be negative, I am sure that Real Betis and Vallecano will do their job.

“In any case, we must not lose energy by thinking about what’s going on elsewhere. We need to do our job first and foremost. It will be very difficult because our opponents are also playing for their Primera Division survival.”
