Sevilla ‘a family’

Sevilla players Daniel Carrico and Kevin Gameiro gave brief reaction to Spanish television following their Europa League final victory against Benfica.

The Portuguese defender would have been playing in the English second tier for Reading this season had he not moved to Andalusia on-loan.

Instead however he now has a European winners medal and described the atmosphere in the Rojiblancos dressing room as that of a family.

“We suffered so much,” Carrico said when asked about the penalty shootout win over the Portuguese champions. “But we deserved it for the battles we fought in every match in this competition.

“We showed our unity and we are a family.”

French forward Gameiro, who came on as a substitute to score the winning spot kick, hailed an important day in the club’s history.

“I wasn’t thinking about anything when I took the penalty, just to make sure I hit it hard.

“It’s a very important day for the club and for ourselves.”
