Aguirre set to leave Espanyol?

Javier Aguirre looks set to leave Espanyol at the end of the season, with Paulo Sousa the favourite to succeed the Mexican.

Catalan daily Sport claim this morning that the Periquitos tactician will leave at the end of the current campaign in a mutual agreement.

The Coach is thought to be unhappy with the way a new contract negotiation has been going, whilst the club are said to be leaning on a change of direction in the dugout.

Former Queens Park Rangers and Swansea man Sousa is the leading candidate for the post, but Pepe Mel, who recently left West Bromwich Albion, is also on the list.

Aguirre meanwhile, has offers from clubs in Qatar, Greece and Saudi Arabia.
