‘Safety my greatest achievement’

Getafe boss Cosmin Contra has claimed that if his side stay in the Primera it will be the happiest day of his life.

The Azulones beat Sevilla 1-0 on Sunday thanks to a 70th minute goal from Sergio Escudero, which means that with one matchday to go, the capital club are in 16th place with 39 points.

And the Romanian tactician has admitted that should his team avoid relegation, it will be his proudest moment.

“When we’re mathematically safe it will be the happiest day of my life,” he told a Press conference.

“I’m delighted now, and I only have words of thanks. The lads have stepped forward and competed with one of the best teams in Spain.

“We have taken a step forward with this win – I’m so happy.

“The team has the confidence to do well. I think everyone can see we’re progressing.”
