EL final ref named

Felix Brych is to referee the Europa League final between Sevilla and Benfica, it has been confirmed.

AS reports that the German official has been named as the man in charge of the May 14 showpiece, which takes place at the Juventus Stadium in Turin.

Brych was the man in the middle for the Champions League quarter-final first-leg between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid earlier this season.

The 37-year-old has been a FIFA referee since 2007 and was the referee of the Bayer Leverkusen vs. Hoffenheim fixture in the Bundesliga earlier this season.

That game saw Brych award a goal to Leverkusen despite the ball hitting the side netting and entering the goalmouth through a hole in the net.

Brych awarded the goal after speaking with one of his assistants. The ‘goal’, scored by Stefan Kiessling, proved the decider in a 2-1 Leverkusen win.
