‘Draw not to do with CL’

Marcelo has dismissed suggestions that Real Madrid drew with Valencia because they were drained from the Champions League win over Bayern Munich.

Los Blancos needed an injury time equaliser from Cristiano Ronaldo to make the score 2-2 after Valencia twice took the lead.

Carlo Ancelotti made a number of chances to the starting XI from the one that trounced Bayern and Marcelo, who came into the side for Fabio Coentrao, said the Champions League wasn’t an issue.

“It had nothing to do with wear from the Champions League,” the full-back said after the match, according to AS.

“We have given everything but we couldn’t win, but at least we drew.

“We don’t look at the matches of other teams. Now we have to win ours anyway. Today we had to win and we couldn’t.

“The League is a very tough tournament. Everything can change at any time. We had an opportunity to close the gap but we’ve failed.”
