Rakitic ‘thought Sevilla were out’

Ivan Rakitic has admitted he thought Sevilla had missed out on the Europa League final when Valencia were leading 3-0.

Los Che overturned Sevilla’s 2-0 lead from the first-leg and were moments away from the final in Turin before Stephane Mbia scored for Sevilla and sent Los Rojiblancos to a meeting with Benfica.

Sevilla captain Ivan Rakitic admitted after the match that he didn’t see any way back for his side until Mbia intervened.

“None of us have words to explain what has happened,” the midfielder said, according to AS.

“We work so hard every day and we deserve it and so do the fans.

“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think we were out of the final at 3-0. We tried to get there.

“Mbia’s goal was impressive. There should be a monument to it forever.

“I remember the goals of Puerta, Palop, and now this.

“I don’t know what to say about Benfica. I just want to enjoy this. Game by game. When we get there, we want to win it.”
