Guardiola: Successful season regardless

Bayern Munich Coach Pep Guardiola says his team’s season will have been a good one regardless of whether they reach the Champions League final.

The defending European champions face Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final tomorrow evening having already secured the Bundesliga title and a place in the final of the German Cup.

“Whether we win the treble or not it will be an easy season to evaluate,” Guardiola said at a Press conference.

“When I am with my staff and we analyse that we have won the Bundesliga and that we are in the cup final, we reach the conclusion that it’s been a good season.

“The important thing is that we also enjoy the wins against the smaller teams in the League. If we don’t, we can’t progress.

“We are in the semi-finals of the Champions League. We all become players and I became a Coach for these occasions.

“I want to see a good atmosphere at the Allianz and I want to get to Lisbon. Madrid are a great team, they were and will continue to be. But we intend to beat them.

“Ancelotti will do what is best for his team and my players will adapt. They are a team who run a lot and are very fast.

“A Coach needs to have a lot of options and Madrid have the quality for that to be the case.

“I like Ancelotti’s philosophy. He also knows his players well and his mentality is not to sit back and defend for 90 minutes.

“I have read and heard things from Madrid saying they are in the final and that they have won.

“We see it differently. We are behind in terms of the scoreline but we want to come back. We know it will be difficult though.”
