Casillas: 1-0 isn’t definitive

Iker Casillas has warned against assuming Real Madrid’s 1-0 first-leg lead over Bayern Munich is enough to reach the Champions League final.

Karim Benzema scored the game’s only goal but a late save was needed from Casillas to prevent Mario Gotze levelling on the night and giving Bayern a valuable away goal.

AS reports Casillas as saying post-match that a cool-headed assessment of the fixture would see it is far from over.

“The score is positive but not definitive. We can’t think that we have secured our way through,” the goalkeeper said.

“The first final is next Tuesday [in the return leg]. Let’s temper our emotions today, and think and think about Saturday.

“The first Champions League final is in Munich.

“It’s a good result for our interests but we’re coming from the tie against Borussia Dortmund. It was going to take a lot of effort and we’re prepared for what comes next Tuesday.

“They have controlled the ball but we had the goal from Karim and some other chances.

“Our approaches were different and I don’t think there’ll be many differences between this game and Tuesday.”

Casillas also downplayed his save from Gotze, believing it was more the occasion than the parry that drew attention to it.

“It wasn’t an important stop but when it’s the semi-final of the European Cup, it is given more importance,” he argued.

“The good thing is we haven’t conceded a goal. They will come and attack us to the fullest.

“We have six days to prepare for that game but first is Osasuna. We will try to rest because we’re still alive.

“I think we need to win [in Munich]. If you draw there you might not get to the final. We should go to win and not speculate.”
