Line-ups: Madrid-Bayern

Cristiano Ronaldo starts for Real Madrid against Bayern Munich but Gareth Bale is named as a substitute.

Ronaldo has missed Madrid’s last four games with a muscle problem but has been passed fit for the Champions League semi-final first-leg against the holders.

Bale has been suffering with flu and although reports earlier today suggested he had recovered, the Wales international joins Marcelo among Los Blancos’ reserves.

Iker Casillas continues in goal with Fabio Coentrao at left-back. Bale’s absence means Angel Di Maria is expected to move forward, with Isco coming into midfield, although it has been speculated that Carlo Ancelotti could shift to a 4-4-2 formation.

Bayern have left Javi Martinez on the bench with reports from Spain saying the former Athletic Bilbao player has a stomach problem. Dante and Jerome Boateng form the visitors’ centre-back partnership.

Manuel Neuer is fit to take his place in the Bayern goal, although Bayern have named Lukas Raeder and Leopold Zingerle, two goalkeepers, among their subs, while Mario Mandzukic starts in attack as Pep Guardiola goes with an orthodox striker.

Former Madrid winger Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery are the players picked in support of Mandzukic and it appears Phillip Lahm starts in midfield.

Real Madrid: Casillas; Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Coentrao; Modric, Alonso, Isco; Di Maria, Benzema, Ronaldo

Bayern Munich: Neuer; Rafinha, Boateng, Dante, Alaba; Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Kroos; Robben, Ribery, Mandzukic
