David Moyes has been sacked by Manchester United after just 10 months in charge of the Premier League champions.

The former Everton boss replaced Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of last season, but has taken the team from first to seventh in the table.

As such, with Champions League football now out of reach, the Old Trafford have decided to relieve the Scotsman from his duties.

“Manchester United has announced that David Moyes has left the club,” a statement read. “The club would like to place on record its thanks for the hard work, honesty and integrity he brought to the role.”

Speculation is now rife as to who will take over from Moyes. Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone and Real Madrid Coach Carlo Ancelotti have both been mentioned as potential successors.

Barcelona targets Roberto Martinez and Jurgen Klopp are also thought to be in the frame.
