Suarez: I hope Torres has a bad game

Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez has said he hopes Fernando Torres doesn’t enjoy his return to Vicente Calderon too much.

Torres’ Chelsea provide the opposition in Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first-leg and Suarez has told Marca what it will take for Diego Simeone’s side to achieve victory.

“We know that in this kind of game whoever makes the fewest mistakes will take the upper hand,” he said.

“Chelsea are a team who know very well what to do in every minute of the game. It will be a tough game.

“They will be very strong in defence and will take advantage of set-pieces. We’ll have to be careful not to make mistakes. We’re already at a high level but we have options.”

It was put to Suarez that Chelsea and Atletico are similar teams. He agreed that they do have things in common.

“Maybe. I don’t want to compare us to another team but it is true that we have some very clear signs of identity, and they are a team that defends well, hurts you from set-pieces and uses the space left by the opposition.

“We may have certain similarities but hopefully our virtues win out.

“They are a very strong team, physically, they know what they are doing all the time and have a very clear idea of their game, which is to break quickly on the counter-attack.

“I think their best player is Eden Hazard, although I don’t know if he can play. For all Atleticos it will be very special to see Torres playing here.

“He has been an idol for many of us and it will be his first return to Vicente Calderon. If he plays hopefully he has a very bad game and can enjoy it after the match.”

Suarez was asked if the presence of Jose Mourinho, formerly of Real Madrid, on the Chelsea bench was added motivation for Los Colchoneros.

“I don’t care who is on the bench of the opposing team,” Suarez replied.

“He is clearly one of the best Coaches in the world, alongside Simeone, Guardiola and Benitez.”
