Alves: I’ll defend Barca until the end

Dani Alves has said that if blame for Barcelona’s Copa del Rey defeat is being handed out, he is willing to take his share.

Barca lost 2-1 to Real Madrid on Wednesday night after Angel Di Maria opened the scoring. Marc Bartra equalised but a solo effort from Gareth Bale in the final minutes sent the Cup to the capital.

“We thought we could get the second goal but it has gone the other way,” Marca reports Alves as lamenting.

“We’re leaving Valencia very unhappy, very sad, because people came hoping to see us win a trophy.”

Alves added he was fully aware of the criticism coming Barca’s way and insisted he wouldn’t hide from it.

“If we have to get in line to be shot, I’ll be shot,” he said.

“That’s my personality. And that is football. You’re the best when you win and the worst when you don’t.

“I care a lot about this great club. I will defend the shirt with love until the end.”
