Carlos red card upheld

The red card shown to Real Betis’ Juan Carlos in the game against Sevilla has been upheld by the Competition Committee.

AS reports that Betis asked for the suspension to be overturned but La Liga’s bottom side have failed in their appeal.

The Competition Committee has decided referee Carlos Velsaco was right to dismiss Carlos for fouling Carlos Bacca. The incident was deemed to be denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity.

Carlos has been given a one-match ban despite Betis arguing that he won the ball in the challenge.

Betis have 10 days to take the case to the Appeals Committee.

Angel Lafita’s two-match ban for being sent off while playing for Getafe against Atletico Madrid has also been confirmed, with AS noting Lafita receives a two-game suspension for picking up a fifth yellow card of the season and for receiving a red card.

Jon Aurtenetxe and Antonio Barragan have also had suspensions for recent red cards confirmed while a number of players, including Antoine Griezmann, Inigo Martinez and Sergio Busquets, are ruled out of their club’s next League fixtures due to an accumulation of yellow cards.
