Godin: Hopefully Costa’s fine

Diego Godin has confirmed Diego Costa suffered only a cut after colliding with the post in Atletico Madrid’s win over Getafe.

Costa had to be stretchered off immediately after scoring the game’s second goal, hitting the woodwork in the process, after Godin had opened the scoring.

Atletico Madrid have since confirmed Costa hasn’t broken any bones.

“I don’t know how bad it is but he has a cut around the tibia. Hopefully that’s all,” AS reports Godin as saying.

The victory means Atletico are three points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table, with a gap of four on champions Barcelona.

“[Getafe] were a tough opponent because they have a lot to play for,” Godin continued.

“It was important to retain a big difference between Madrid and Barcelona.

“A win is a win but there’s a bitter taste because of Diego’s injury.”
