Calderon rages at ‘shameful’ refereeing

Real Betis Coach Gabriel Calderon was caustic in his assessment of refereeing standards in Spain after seeing his side lose 2-0 to Sevilla.

Juan Carlos was sent off with less than half an hour played and Kevin Gameiro converted the resulting penalty, later adding a second to push Betis closer to the drop.

“The truth is, not only in the derby, I’ve never seen this level of refereeing,” Marca reports Calderon as saying at his post-match Press conference.

“What we are seeing in the Spanish League is bad for Spanish football.

“When you see it in every game, against Atletico Madrid, the other day with Barcelona, everything is against us.

“The Spanish refereeing is not at the level of the League, not only with Betis.”
