Diego Simeone doesn’t believe Atletico Madrid have reached their apogee in the Champions League win over Barcelona.

Atletico qualified for the competition’s semi-finals with a 2-1 aggregate win, triumphing 1-0 on Wednesday night at a feverish Vicente Calderon.

He told Canal+ after the final whistle that Atletico’s limit is not yet in sight.

“The players go on and on. I admire these players. Beyond that I love them,” AS quotes El Cholo as saying.

“I love how they delivered line by line. The team isn’t mine and I don’t want to betray the great fights that were won by those most prepared.

“They don’t betray our ideas because there is affection among us all.

“I’m happy because it was a great tie against a very strong rival. Barca were the protagonist for passages and we had to be calm.

“We will recuperate because we have another tough game on Sunday.

“It was like two matches in different areas. We had well-developed pressure near their area and the other near our area.

“If they got past the first pressure then we combined to cover. The intention of the first 20 minutes was to have a good attitude and the performance was very good.

“We had to manage the game in the second-half because Barca grew. We had to wait to try and get the second goal.”
