Koke: No ceiling on Atletico

Koke has said there is no limit on what Atletico Madrid can achieve after his goal guaranteed a place in the Champions League semi-finals.

Atleti beat Barcelona 1-0 on the night and 2-1 on aggregate to book a place in Friday’s draw. They join holders Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Chelsea in the final four.

Speaking to Canal+ after the final whistle, Koke paid tribute to the Vicente Calderon crowd, who created a thunderous atmosphere for the game’s 90 minutes.

“With the Calderon it’s so hard to lose a game here. I’ve rarely seen it like this,” Terra Deportes quotes Koke as saying.

“There are no words to thank these fans.”

Koke also deflected any individual praise for his winning goal, insisting it was very much a team effort.

“I helped the team to the semi-finals but the team’s work has been spectacular and we are deserving winners,” he added.

“This team has no ceiling but we will continue with our philosophy of going game by game and on Sunday we have another.

“Whoever we’re drawn to play will be very difficult. We have eliminated the best and we’ll face another.”
