Klopp: We’ll play our natural game

Jurgen Klopp has urged his Borussia Dortmund side to play their natural game against Real Madrid this evening.

The German side go into tonight’s Champions League quarter-final second leg looking to claw back a 3-0 deficit from the first match.

And the Coach has asked his men to go out and not think about the hurdle they have to manoeuvre.

“We’re coming into the game in the most natural way possible,” he told a Press conference.

“At the end of the day it’s not that difficult. There’s lots of advice coming from outside that it would be ideal to open the scoring in the fifth minute and I don’t know what to think.

“It wouldn’t be any use whatsoever if we don’t do well in the other 85. I don’t know how many of these apparent miracles end up coming to pass.

“All we can say is that we need to give it our all. We owe it to our supporters to put all our passion into it.

“We need to play with a lot of passion, that’s obvious and it’s vital. We won't be successful any other way.

“After this we have important games and elimination looks pretty certain. What I’m saying is that we have to give it our all to avoid the same result as in the first leg.

“That’s what we need to avoid at all costs. Sahin’s a doubt, Kehl isn’t available (suspended). But I guarantee that from the start we’ll be focused on the game.

“I’ll put out guys who can win the match. In the first leg the summary was that we had some chances and didn’t take them. We need to fix that, as well as the bad defending.

“And let’s see where it takes us. As we are specialists in the second half let’s see what we can do in this second half.”

Klopp then commented on whether he is just a coach of young players, or whether he could transfer his skills to world-class performers.

“I don’t know how I’m seen outside Germany and since my career began. Maybe people only know the last three years with Borussia.

“If someone has worked with youngsters it isn’t because they are a great coach of youngsters, but because there wasn’t any money and there was a need to base their work on other aspects, talent and perspectives.

“Talking about youngsters also isn’t right when you see that I brought Mainz up with an average age of 31 years old.

“One thing is coaching players who are already stars and another thing developing players so they can be good players one day. Sahin, Subotic, Lewandowski… We’ve had a lot of success here.

“The basis for it is respect. That way there are no problems. I like good footballers, and that says it all.”
