Casillas criticises Busquets ‘stamp’

Iker Casillas has criticised the behaviour of Sergio Busquets after the Barcelona midfielder was accused of stamping on Pepe in El Clasico.

Marca reports an interview with Casillas that touches on a number of subjects, from the Busquets-Pepe incident to the League title race, his future with Real Madrid and the chances of Diego Lopez playing for Spain.

“The image is there and speaks volumes,” Casillas said of the altercation between his club colleague Pepe and his international teammate Busquets.

“Of course Pepe has the support of all his teammates but I don’t want to go into details.

“Busi, from my point of view, has not behaved well, but what happens on the field has to stay there.

“When I see him I’ll give him a slap on the wrist but no more.”

Barca’s 4-3 win in El Clasico has contributed to Madrid falling to third in the table, three points behind leaders Atletico Madrid.

All three title challengers are in action on Saturday with Madrid travelling to Real Sociedad – without Cristiano Ronaldo – and Atletico at home to Villarreal. Barca, meanwhile, host bottom of the League Real Betis.

Madrid are the last of the trio to take to the field and will know the outcome of the other two games by the time they kick-off, an advantage, according to Casillas.

“We’ll know what the other two have done before we play,” the goalkeeper noted.

“But what’s important is that we get three points. Hopefully we get a good result for our interests and if we can cut points, the better.

“Dropping points would complicate it for us a lot.”

Casillas was asked if he felt the decision to rest Ronaldo for the trip to Anoeta was a sign Madrid are valuing the Champions League over the League.

“I don’t think so,” he replied.

“I think the decision with Cristiano was taken because he can’t play. He’s shown in his five years here that he is always willing to play, and if not it is a force majeure.”
