Emery: Sevilla still in it

Unai Emery believes it is all to play for in the second-leg of Sevilla’s Europa League tie with Porto.

The first-leg, played in Portugal, ended in a 1-0 win for the home side courtesy of an Eliaquim Mangala goal just after the half-hour mark.

But Emery believes Los Rojiblancos can overturn Porto’s lead when the game goes to Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

“Sevilla are capable of more than we have shown today,” Emery told a post-match Press conference.

“With the support of the fans we can reach the semi-finals and win the tie.

“Our opponent has good players and our defence was strong, but we lacked the ability to play between the lines in attack.

“We weren’t successful in attack. We had possession but no penetration, even though the game’s clearest chance was a shot from Carlos Bacca and Kevin Gameiro’s rebound.”

Emery also defended captain Ivan Rakitic from criticism, warning against expecting too much from the midfielder.

“We shouldn’t blame Rakitic for anything. He can’t do it all himself, start moves, pass, score and dictate strategy,” the Coach added.
