Real Madrid have approached Sevilla captain Ivan Rakitic about moving to Santiago Bernabeu this summer, reports in Spain claim.

AS cites a story by COPE that says Rakitic is fully aware of Madrid’s interest and it has led to talks over his new Sevilla contract stalling.

Rakitic’s existing deal expires in 2015 and that could spur negotiations between the clubs, AS adds, with Madrid hoping for a low price considering the short time left on the Croatian’s contract. Rakitic’s contract has a release clause of €40m.

Atletico Madrid are also keen on Rakitic, it is understood, but the player would prefer to wear Los Blancos’ colours.
