Valencia and Getafe in tunnel scuffle

Valencia and Getafe have been reported for a post-match scuffle in the tunnel following their match on Sunday.

Getafe took a 3-1 win from Mestalla, their first victory in 14 games, after goals from Angel Lafita, Ciprian Marica and Pedro Leon cancelled out Eduardo Vargas’ opener.

Leon raised the ire of Jeremy Mathieu as he celebrated his 88th minute strike in front of the Valencia fans.

Mathieu responded by slapping Leon before he was sent off by referee Gil Manzano. Getafe Coach Cosmin Contra was also dismissed for his part in the ensuing incident.

Reports in Spain say Manzano has confirmed that tensions continued to rise once the players were off the pitch and while no punches were thrown, there was an altercation in the tunnel.

The players and staff from each team are said to have gotten in each other’s’ faces while Vargas threw water over the Getafe side.

A bottle was also thrown from the crowd but missed the players. The missile is said to have come from the section housing supporters in Valencia colours.
