Oscar De Marcos has warned that Athletic Bilbao can’t consider a Champions League place guaranteed yet.
Ernesto Valverde’s side were beaten by Atletico Madrid at San Mames on Saturday and de Marcos believes the sides chasing fourth won’t give up easily.
“The end of the season is very difficult. The stakes are higher for everyone,” he told a Press conference.
“The teams behind us have closed the gap, but we still have an advantage and we’ll fight until the end.”
De Marcos also pointed to Athletic’s remaining fixtures, which sees them host Sevilla and Real Sociedad.
“There are still a lot of points to play for before fourth place is ours,” he added.
“In the second-half [against Atletico] we had a chance to go ahead but didn’t take it.
“We let Atletico in. They showed how united they are and it’s difficult to hurt them.”
