Pizzi: Valencia lacked creativity

Juan Antonio Pizzi pointed the finger at a lack of inspiration as the reason for Valencia’s 3-1 defeat to Getafe.

It was El Geta’s first win in 14 games and came despite Eduardo Vargas giving Los Che the lead after six minutes.

Goals from Angel Lafita, Ciprian Marica and Pedro Leon turned the score around, while Jeremy Mathieu was sent off late on when he struck Leon after taking exception to his celebration.

“We had intensity and effort but we didn’t rise to the challenge,” Pizzi said at his post-match Press conference.

“It’s difficult for us to get into Europe now because the reality is we’re in a worse position than last week.

“We lacked creativity in the first-half, lost our balance for several minutes and conceded two goals.

“We took the initiative in the second-half but didn’t convert our chances, and the posts and the goalkeeper prevented us getting a draw.

“We’ve been unable to maintain our consistency or take advantage of our opportunities. That’s our issue.”

Pizzi was asked for his thoughts on the incident between Mathieu and Leon but said he is reluctant to wade in.

“I don’t get involved in these things but we need to eradicate them from football. I’d prefer not to comment on it,” the Argentine added.
