Carlo Ancelotti was at a loss to explain why the Santiago Bernabeu crowd whistled Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo against Rayo Vallecano.
Madrid won the game 5-0 but the home crowd wasn’t entirely happy with what they saw. At various points of the game Ancelotti, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Diego Lopez were all targeted, as was the Portuguese.
“I have said many times that I understand the whistles when they’re deserved,” Ancelotti said at his post-match Press conference.
“Currently we’re putting in a great effort and they may be because we haven’t done well in the last two games.
“But we need everyone’s help and whistling Cristiano is not understandable.
“Regarding Diego, he lives focused on his work and I don’t think he’ll be influenced.”
Ancelotti was pleased to see Madrid get back on track after losing consecutive games to Barcelona and Sevilla and falling to third in the League table.
“We reacted well after the two defeats. We played a good game and the players had a good attitude,” Ancelotti continued.
“This prepares us well for the next game and we must continue, because it’s a very important moment in the season.
“We could be in a better place after the two defeats but physically we’re at a good time, and mentally we reacted well and can have optimism.
“There aren’t many games left and if we win them all we win the Champions League and the Copa del Rey.
“That’s the same for another team [Barcelona] but we have to think about ourselves and be positive.
“It may be affecting our results [for Barca and Atletico Madrid to keep winning] but we have to be focused on our game and think of something else. We have to do well.”
Ancelotti added that in his mind, not much about the team changed for the game against Rayo from the two previous defeats.
“I don’t think we changed many things. I said we made little mistakes against Barca and Sevilla but today we did well.
“We used the negatives and have got the balance in the team back.”
Ancelotti now turns his attention to the Champions League quarter-final with Borussia Dortmund, who travel to the Bernabeu for the first-leg on Wednesday.
“It will be a great atmosphere. Everybody has a dream, which is la Decima,” the Italian revealed.
