Jemez aiming for win at Madrid

Rayo Vallecano boss Paco Jemez has insisted that his side are going to Santiago Bernabeu this evening to win.

The Franjirrojos go across the capital to face Real Madrid, with Los Blancos off the back of two straight defeats.

And the Coach has claimed that his men are ready to make it three, despite their opponents obvious quality.

“We’re obviously going there for the win,” he told a Press conference.

“In this game we have a lot to gain and a lot to lose. Above and beyond the result, though, I want my team to play well – more than points, what’s at stake for us is prestige.

“Of course it would be an achievement if we won.

“I don’t get the impression that Madrid are on a downward turn, even if they have lost their last two games.

“When they lose, it seems like they’re on a bad run, but they’re still alive and they can never be written off.

“It’s possible that this situation makes the match even more difficult for us, since Madrid are hurting and will want to put on a good show.

“I don’t think that Madrid will get nervous, because they have an extremely settled side and they’re used to playing games of increased importance.

“What I expect to come up against is a team out to put on a good show and score early. They’ll come flying out of the traps, because of the situation they’re in and because their supporters will demand that. Madrid are more dangerous now.

“It’s difficult, but not impossible. Anything can happen in football. Why can't Rayo win? It’s a difficult task and we’re up against one of the best teams in the world.

“We have to be realistic – Real Madrid are favourites, but unthinkable things happen in football. On paper, Rayo should be in Segunda División.

“We’re going to go out to enjoy ourselves and press them high up so that they can’t get comfortable and play their game.

“There’s a lot of prestige at stake and this is a chance for a footballer to show what he’s made of. I don’t want anyone to take a breather, and I want us to give our all.”
