Espanyol ‘must be at 100 per cent’

Espanyol captain Sergio Garcia says his team must play at 100 per cent to have any hope of taking something out of this weekend’s derby with Barcelona.

The 30-year-old added that a victory against their old rivals would feel fantastic but also expressed his sympathy for injured Barca goalkeeper Victor Valdes.

“Barca have reacted after going through a difficult period,” Garcia said to Sport.es.

“We need to be at 100 per cent to be in the game and we know that we cannot allow them to play their natural game.

“Beating our great rivals at home would be fantastic. I hope it’s a great match, we will be looking for three points.

“With the help of our fans it will be easier to do it.

“Victor Valdes was a teammate of mine and he is my friend, I wish him a speedy recovery.

“The loss will hurt Barca but they have a good replacement keeper to come in.”
