Jemez credits hard work

Paco Jemez believes hard work is paying off for Rayo Vallecano after the 1-0 win over Osauna.

Joaquin Larrivey scored a last minute penalty to give Rayo the points up to 12th place, five points clear of the bottom three.

Rayo are now unbeaten in five games, winning four and drawing one, and are one of the form teams in La Liga.

“This is down to hard work and confidence. That’s why the results are coming,” Jemez said at a post-match Press conference.

“That’s not to say we didn’t do the right things before. Now we’re committing fewer errors and doing better in a number of areas.

“The run we’re on has been phenomenal because it’s gotten us out of trouble.”

Jemez however stressed that Rayo aren’t safe yet and will need more points before they can be sure of playing in the top flight next season.

“Sadly 33 points doesn’t guarantee survival and at a minimum we need three more,” Jemez added.

“There is a lot of the season left and it’s not easy. After we guarantee survival we’ll see how far we can go.

“This is a big step towards survival but we’re still a few points short.

“But we can hold our heads high when we see where we are in the table.”

Rayo next meet Real Madrid and Jemez is looking forward to the challenge of playing the title challengers.

“Of course we have a chance to win [at Santiago Bernabeu],” Jemez continued.

“We try to enjoy every match and I can’t find a better scenario to compete in.

“If anyone think we’ll roll over and give them the win, they’re wrong.”
