Pizzi delighted with Valencia win

Juan Antonio Pizzi believes Valencia’s first half performance against Villarreal was the best since he became Coach.

Los Che ran out 2-1 winners against the Yellow Submarine with a Javi Fuego brace coming before the interval.

Giovani dos Santos pulled a goal back for the visitors with seven minutes to play but Valencia held on to claim the points.

“That was the best first half I’ve seen since I came here,” Pizzi said at his post-match Press conference.

“It was against a great opponent, despite the nerves when they scored at the end.

“We have to recognise we started to get tired given our busy schedule and small squad, so we couldn’t maintain the intensity in the second half.”

Pizzi added that he hoped Valencia won the Europa League this season, but wanted the focus squarely on domestic affairs for now.

“It would be historic for us to win the Europa League, given the teams in the quarter finals,” the Argentine continued.

“We’re still six point behind [Villarreal] in La Liga and we can’t think beyond Thursday’s game against Almeria, because our rivals still have an advantage over us.”
