David Villa could join a club in the MLS if Atletico Madrid decide against renewing his contract.
Villa’s current deal with Los Colchoneros expires at the end of the season and if they wish to extend it, Atletico will have to make a payment to Barcelona under the terms of the transfer that took him from Camp Nou to Vicente Calderon.
Marca reports that Villa would prefer to stay with Atleti to remain at the highest level of football but he has already been contacted by interested parties, mostly from the United States.
It is said that if Villa was to remain with Atletico he would have to do so on a much reduced salary whereas the MLS franchises showing an interest would likely increase the striker’s pay packet.
